Scapino!By Frank Dunlop

Produced: February, 19778 I have such a love for this show because it was so successful. The design is pretty much from the back of the book. Although the script encourages local "improvements" and experimentation, the original is so well developed it is very hard to improve anything. As a young professor I had the joy of bringing along a congenial group of actors and putting a show together that was wonderfully charismatic. The play calls for a playing space in the middle of the audience separated from the stage by a bridge over "pretend" water. Several scenes were played out there, including the beating-in-the-sack scene. |
