AntigoneBy Sophocles |
Produced: April, 2002 The visual concepts for this production drew from an eclectic mix of Eastern influences, evoking a meditation on the the place of personal conviction and the powerful influence of religion in the contemporary world order. In the year before the invasion of Iraq the world was focused on Afghanistan. The setting for this production consisted of long legs of muslin vat dyed in reds and purples; a platform that stepped up off stage right for some isolation and separation, and as a body platform; and a small platform downstage left for seats and emphasis. The stage was built out over the orchestra pit with a 1-step drop. The suicide was staged in silhouette. There was an African drum ensemble accompanying the performance, visible in silhouette upstage. |
